Success Kit Checklist
Step 1: Be. Do. Have.
The first part of your journey is to develop the mindset of the person you want to be. Do you want to be the woman who is self-sufficient? Do you want to be the woman who can afford to buy herself new designer items? The first step is to start thinking like that person. Set yourself up to be the person that does the things you want to do, the person who takes herself the places you want to be. The woman who wears designer clothing and appears to be put together and has her life in line, is not the woman who also tosses her clothes in a heap in the corner of her room. She is organized and prepared. Building a successful business often starts with what is going on inside of us. Start by creating positive thoughts and goals and believe in yourself. You can be successful!

Step 2: Who Has Time for That?
When Amanda and I began the brainstorming process for Lady Boss Enterprise, we both realized very quickly how busy our day to day lives are. I am a single mother with a 1 year old daughter, a crazy wild puppy, entrepreneur, group organizer, and a proprietor. Amanda is a wife, a mom to two furbabies, a full time Grad student, and works full time in management. Needless to say, we found that we are both very busy in two completely different ways.
It’s important to really think through your day and decide when you are going to work on your business. Put away the phone, the distractions and the excuses and focus in on exactly what your end goals are.
• What are five goals you want to accomplish by starting a business?
• Is there a time of day that you are most motivated?
• How many hours a week do you want to invest into building your business?
• How many hours a week can you successfully invest into building your business?
Planning and executing a schedule is crucial when you intend to run a successful business. Especially if you are just getting on your feet and still have to work that 8-5 to fund your dreams. Begin your schedule with all of the events that you have committed to already, such as work, dropping the kids off to practice, and the appointments you have already set. Then take a look at your calendar and make a conscious decision to set time to work on your business. Since this is your business, you can be more flexible, but you need to still take this as serious as scheduling time for your day job. During this time, put away any distractions and excuses. Stay off of social media and email, so that you can let yourself focus directly on what your end goals are.

Step 3: Begin Your Research
Every monumental success started from one idea, followed by dedication and passion.
• What are you passionate about?
• What makes you want to get going in the morning?
• What driving factors are there for you to start this venture?
Step 4: Narrow in on Your Idea
You have begun your brainstorming and have come up with a few ideas, or even a whole notebook filled with all of the things you hope to do! Work on focusing your attention on one core idea. Which idea are you most passionate about? Which ideas do you think you can eliminate for now? Check off any ideas that you feel you cannot passionately get behind right now.
• What is the main aim of your idea?
• What do you love?
• What skills or knowledge do you have that the universe needs more of?
Step 5: Explore What is Out There
Having extensive knowledge of your market and a deep understanding of who your target clientele will be is pivotal to starting a successful business. Research to find what similar products or services already exist. Examine these similar businesses, not only from a competitor’s viewpoint, but also as a consumer. Brainstorm ways that you can make this business model better. What are they missing? What do you see that you can do to improve and bring your business to the next level. Allow your own experiences to sculpt your business and make it unique.
• What inspired you to create this business? • Think of a time that you were searching for this product or service. Did you struggle finding what you were searching for? • What can you do to assure that your business is easy to understand and accessible to a large market?
• Can you think of a time you were searching for a product or service and said: I wish they offered this?
• List three businesses in a similar field to what you’d like to do.
Step 6: Determine Your Dream Target Audience
Before you begin making substantial investments into the future of your business, you must first identify your target market. Who could benefit from what you are offering? How can you assure your potential clients, that what you are offering supersedes those who have come before you?
This will help to gain an understanding of who your future clients will be.
• Who will this business serve?
• Who are you creating this for?
• What is your audiences frustration?
• Why are they going to love your idea?
Step 7: Declare Your Mission
Don’t stress the details right away. Instead, be sure that you have a strong concept of where you want your business to go and what you want your business to become. Dream big ladies!
• How do you want your audience to feel?
• What are some words that resonate with you?
• What are you setting out to achieve?
Step 8: Brainstorming = Namestorming!
This part should be fun for you ladies! This is the beginning of your brand, so let these ideas come from your heart and have fun with this. When choosing a name, some find it comes easily, others struggle to find the one that feels perfect.
Take your time with this as this will be what identifies your business for years!
What keywords do you hear yourself saying when you are explaining your business? If you get stuck on this, you could always turn to the internet! Do a domain search for your target market. If your market is moms, you may get results such as MOMSlist.
• Is the name you’ve chosen registered as a trademark?
• Does it make sense?
• Is it hard to spell or need an explanation?
Step 9: Purchase a Domain and Set Up Hosting
You’re due for an easy step, so here it is! Although setting up your own website sounds intimidating, it has actually become very simple. Search popular websites that are used for creating your own domain, such as Godaddy or Hostmonster. These sites exist to make your life easier! You can also register at domains.google.com.

Step 10: Get your LLC or Limited Company(UK)
Often people get roped into paying excessive fees to have others do this for them. If you google file an LLC in (your state here) then scroll to the link that says sos.state.(your state).us then click LLC, it will cost you roughly $50 and all you have to do is fill in your name and business address and put yourself as the registering agent.
Step 11: Create Your Business Plan
• What product or service will you offer?
• How does your product or service offer value?
• What need does your product or service fulfill?
• What platforms will you use?
• How will you collect money?
• What will your pricing be?
• What kind of content will you have?
• How will you deliver the content?
• Which experts should you contact for advice?
• How will you keep people interested in your product or services?
• How can you build anticipation?
• What is your goal?
• What is your plan for marketing?
• Who will you need to hire?
• What will the cost be for operations?
Step 12: Brand Your Business
What does your business stand for?
-Your brand is what will make you stand out from the crowd. When developing your brand, think about what will make you proud. When you see your brand out in public, you should want to shout to everyone, “Hey, that’s me! That’s my brand!”

When working through this step, it is best to have a strong and precise wireframe. You will need a designer to create this wireframe for you.

Choosing a designer can be simple, or it could get more complicated. The key is to find someone who can see your vision and values what you want. Remember, you are hiring them, so although feedback is important, be sure that you get your own idea across.
You can do a test run with a developer by asking them to design a logo for you.
Once you have chosen the right designer, you will need them to create your wireframe. A wireframe is a mock-up design of exactly what your site will look like once you have began development.

Occasionally a designer can also be a developer. Never take a freelancers word for it! Always review previous work and take the extra step to actually talk with previous clients. It is worth the invested time to check references and save yourself from wasting time and money on someone who cannot follow through.
Step 13: Choose an E-Mail Provider
Once your site is ready, choose an email provider and have your developer connect it to various forms such as an opt in form, contact form and email subscriber list.

Step 14: Set Up Your Social Media
Social media can be a full time job all on its own. In fact, if you haven’t found your business idea or passion yet, there is a lot of profit to be made by getting to know one of these platforms. But when it comes to the business idea you already have, it’s best to concentrate on growing one platform at a time. I like to set up all of my platforms just to reserve the same name across the board. My favorite platform is Instagram whereas Amanda is a Facebook genius and doesn’t even know it.
Social media is such a powerful tool to tap into when building your business. The reach we can have and the opportunity to be in front of our dream audience is incredible.
The best way to choose the platform that will work best for you is to get real with the audience you selected above.

• Are there any groups that your audience might be in?
• Is your audience a hashtag? #MOMSlist
There are also many available options when it comes to getting your content out there. For example, I have my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter linked. Anything I post on Instagram, I can share on Facebook which will automatically post to my twitter. Sometimes I am able to create content ahead of time and load it all into a fancy tool called hootsuite.
No matter which platform you choose, the key is to keep it simple. Take your time and be consistent. Don’t be afraid to reach out to others who have successfully grown their platforms. If you can’t get in contact with them, observe what they do.
Step 15: Start Connecting
It’s time to start networking. Tell others what you are passionate about, what you plan to do and connect with like minded people. Then share, share, share! Join groups and answer questions. Even if you don’t know the answer, often you can google it and be able to give back. You can also utilize Lady Boss Enterprise’s network of ladies! Once you are part of Lady Boss Enterprise, we connect you with a large demographic of other lady entrepreneurs that are just waiting to help you! Others will get to know you and your expertise, and they’ll want to get to know what you’re doing.

• Are there any local networking events that you can go to?
Some of the things you’ll try may not always work out, but when you find that thing or meet that person that can help take you to the next level, you’ll be glad you tried.
Step 16: Create a Plan For Content
After choosing your social media platform of choice, it’s time to decide what kind of value you’ll offer as content that will align with your dream audience. Some common themes are:
Inspirational quotes or pictures
Affirmation quotes or pictures
Take a look at what similar businesses are doing to grow their audience.
Step 17: Start Gathering E-Mails For Your Launch
You don’t need to have a website to start building your email list. This can be as simple as creating a landing page where you invite people to sign up to find out more. Some great content to put on your landing page would be your mission, what’s to come and ask them to get involved. You can even offer a code to use for a discount once the site is launched.
Another way to get subscribers is by offering a digital freebie. Something they can have instant access to like: a printable, e-book or an e-mail with value. Just make sure you create and offer something that aligns with your end goal and ideal audience.
Step 18: Build Your Audience
This will be a daily endeavor that requires research, reading and spending time to come up with content.

Step 19: Create Your Product or Service
This will vary from business to business. Often it’s best to start with overcoming any money blocks. If you are feeling unsure just remember you’ll be exchanging value.

• Will this be a product or service?
Step 20: Get Customers
After you have built your audience, the next step is to turn your audience into customers that will want to buy from you.
• How are you attracting potential customers to your channel or page?
• What can you do that will make them want to learn more by following you or subscribing to your e-mail list?
• How can you nurture your relationship so that when you have something for them to buy, they will because they have gotten to know you?
• How will you tell your audience that they can buy from you in a way that will resonate with them?
Step 21: Grow Your Business
At this point, if you’ve had clients ask for case studies and testimonials. Determine what’s working, what isn’t and what people want more of. You need to constantly be seeking ways you can grow by looking at what you can improve or add.
